Institute for Practice Improvement

The Washington Association for Children and Families (WACF) is proud to introduce the Institute for Practice Improvement, a dedicated initiative committed to enhancing the well-being of children, youth, and families. The institute provides targeted technical assistance and professional training to individuals and organizations working directly with these populations. By equipping people with advanced knowledge and practical tools, the institute aims to empower people and providers, foster best practices, and drive systemic improvements within the field of social services. Through this initiative, WACF reinforces its dedication to supporting those on the frontlines of family and child welfare, creating lasting, positive change in the community

Children who have experienced trauma often bring challenging behaviors to their environment. Caregivers and professionals often do not know what to do, which can lead to frustration, lack of care and even placement disruption. This training offers a trauma refresher overview and ideas into helping the child manage their reactions and behaviors. Developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network (NCTSN).

In 2021 the Washington Association for Children & Families (WACF) worked with advocates, agencies, and non-profit organizations in Washington State and beyond, WACF is developing clear resources and helpful tools for those considering becoming foster parents.

Here's how we're supporting children, youth, and families in Washington State:

  • Provide potential foster parents with essential educational resources so they can make informed decisions

  • Improve recruitment strategies through digital tools that link our partner agencies with a wider audience

  • Advocate for foster families by learning more about their needs and sharing their stories

  • Educate the general public about the challenges and status of foster care in Washington State

  • WACF can promote safety, permanency, and well-being for children and families.
